International Women in Engineering Day
To support International Women in Engineering Day (INWED18) on Saturday 23 June, Dodd Group has been joining in the social media campaign to raise the profile and celebrate the achievements of women in engineering, and to encourage more girls to consider engineering as a career. Currently women make up less than 11% of the engineering sector, and with a large skills gap looming and the additional need for a more diverse workforce, it has never been more important to encourage girls to choose a career in engineering.
Dodd Group is passionate about providing a fulfilling, diverse and inclusive place to work and strive to encourage women to join all areas of our company. INWED18 provides a great opportunity for us to celebrate the likes of Corey Dolan who are doing so much to address the misconceptions about our industry.
Corey, finalist in this year's CN Specialists Awards, joined Dodd Group as a site administrator. Seeing first-hand what engineers do on site inspired her to change careers and she has now completed her first year's course in Building Services Engineering. Corey has also become a STEM ambassador and will be attending a series of talks at local schools in Shropshire and the surrounding areas to try to encourage more young women to follow her lead and join the construction industry in a site based apprentice role. Corey is happy to admit her ambition to be a role model for other young women:
"I find it empowering being a woman in such a male dominated industry. I want to prove that women can be just as successful as any man within the industry"
