The brand-new Ladder School & Studio School buildings were built on the site of a former Walsall leather factory, Shannon's Mill, which was destroyed in a fire in 2007. The Ladder School and Walsall Studio School cater for over 300 pupils between them. The two separate schools will be operated by The Mercian Trust, which is a diverse multi-academy trust bringing together different schools catering to a wide range of individual needs.
The Ladder School is an entirely new build campus on an adjacent site to the Studio School, offering alternative provision for young people in the Walsall area who are at the risk of exclusion from mainstream education.
The new two and three storey buildings offer up to 112 students in Key Stage Four and post 16 education a high-quality performance and a digitally rich industry-led learning environment.
Walsall Studio School's new extended accommodation block comprised a single storey building extension, to the Studio (GOLDMINE) Block. It offers a bespoke curriculum designed to engage students on a four-year professional journey that allows them to thrive in the creative, digital and health industries. This new build will provide dedicated and specialist space to further this work.
