Shrewsbury College Engineering Block was a 6 phased refurbishment project with a Design and Build M&E package. Each of the 6 phases involved a complete strip out and demolition leaving only the external walls and roof. Within the project, new classrooms were formed, carpentry and joinery, welding, motor vehicle, ceramics and metalwork.
The new works involved a state of the art Kemper welding bay setup and extract system, vehicle extract, an air source heat pump, CAT 6 data installation, a sophisticated AV system, fire alarm, BMS, PIR controlled lighting throughout, an AHU which had to be sited in an internal courtyard, a kiln within the new ceramics department.
The M&E installations were made particularly challenging as the building remained in operation throughout all of our works and all the existing services had to be kept live.
