Project name: RAF Waddington, Royal Air Force Aerobatic Team (RAFAT) Dye Pod Facility
M&E Order Value: £1 Million
Contractor: Henry Brothers
This project saw a new build Dye Pod Bay facility for the Royal Air Force Aerobatic Team (RAFAT), otherwise known as the Red Arrows, at RAF Waddington, an existing facility that was relocated from RAF Scampton. The RAFAT Dye Bay provides the Dye Pod and the Hydraulic Dye Rig with the ability to produce smoke from Pod cannisters underslung from the Hawk T1 aircraft, as well as a working environment for smoke pod maintenance.
Dodd Ground was tasked with installing a bespoke specialist waste fuel drainage and storage system for the aircraft dye pods. The combination of waste fuel and dye would discharge into a grated stainless steel liner within the wet room for pumping into 2no storage tanks with gantry access. Due to the explosive environment, the fuel/dye areas required Atex rated M&E services along with Aa complex controls system.
Dodd Group also successfully delivered LV Distribution (including Atex), Small Power (Atex), Lighting(inc Atex), Data, Public Address, Fire Detection/Alarm, Lightning Protection, Sanitaryware, Above Ground Drainage, Compressed Air, Domestic Hot & Cold Water, Mechanical Ventilation & DX Heating, Electric Heating and a Building Management System (including Atex).
