Gloucester Royal Hospital IGIS Hub
Project name: Gloucester Royal Hospital IGIS Hub
Client: Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust
M&E Order Value: £4.2 million
Contractor: Kier Construction
Dodd Group was appointed to deliver the M&E services at Gloucester Royal Hospital for the refurbishment of the Cath Labs and IGIS areas, to provide additional scanning facilities within the establishment, with a programme phased over 3 phases. This included 3 x cardiac catheter laboratories, 2x interventional radiology suites and 1x hybrid imaging theatre.
The project works took place within a 24/7 live hospital environment with an overarching consideration of critical services being maintained and disruption to the clinical team and patients minimised. Careful resource and logistical planning was required for our work force to gain access to the site and the delivery of materials to work areas. Plant deliveries were coordinated with the Hospital Trust particularly where contract lifts of equipment have necessitated the closure of areas for agreed time periods to avoid disruption to the staff, patients and visitors.
The works included the installation of a new mechanical ventilation and LV plant room located on the roof of the existing building. Alongside this Dodd Group carried out the upgrade of the supply transformer to the area, integrating this and the New LV panel for the refurbished areas into the existing site supply network. This involved detailed planning and liaison with the Estates Team to ensure disruption to the hospital was kept to a minimum.
Other works completed were the integration of Fire Alarm systems, Fire Damper Systems, connection into existing water systems for domestic use and heating and cooling, supplies and earthing requirements to specialist scanning equipment and general power and lighting installations to the areas.
